NZ On Screen launches

Way back in April I wrote about how I’d been involved in user-testing for NZ On Screen. The site is now live, so you can go and experience it for yourself (although I’m pretty sure that watching entire episodes of Eating Media Lunch while at work might be stretching the idea of blogging (and interacting with social media) at work a little far…).

I’m excited about this site for three key reasons:

  1. It’s a way of making accessible content & information that had previously been available only to limited parties. That’s like a vision of what Government 2.0 should look like, in which data is made freely available in various easy ways for the people who want it.
  2. All the original content being producted for NZ on Screen in their Screentalk section is being released under a New Zealand creative commons licence, which is something that we’ve talked about before on In Development, and we love to see happen. It also sets the stage for some interesting discussion about whether or not more NZ on Air content could be created under the assumption that it would have a Creative Commons licence straight away.
  3. Now I can finally watch Gloss again! From home, of course.
