As this is my first post, I’ll start with a quick intro. I’m Vikram Kumar, Manager Programme Strategy and work with the All-of-government Authentication Programme. My general areas of interest are the issues and opportunities related with identity, authentication and privacy.
April is Identity Month, a time for government agencies to talk about identity management. In line with this, SSC is supporting three identity-related events this month:
- An international conference “Managing Identity in New Zealand” sponsored by Victoria University of Wellington at Te Papa on the 29th and 30th. A dialogue between key identity management stakeholders from government, business and academia will evolve thinking on the broader topic of identity. With over 200 people already registered and an impressive list of speakers, it is shaping up to be the highlight of the Identity Month.
- The Biometrics Institute is organising its 2008 Annual New Zealand Conference on the 3rd, also at Te Papa. Besides a wide range of speakers, there are two panel discussions, one on “Biometric Data Management and Data Security Issues” while the other one is on “Biometrics and Border Security.”
- A Barcamp focussing on User-Centric Identity. A Barcamp is a self-organising informal event- anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join. The current plan is to hold it on the weekend of the 26th and 27th. The Barcamp is being organised by Robert O’Brien and Barney Craggs.
All three of these events will provide opportunities to look at the notion of identity from a wide variety of perspectives, a key objective of Identity Month.
